Making reasonable adjustments

As someone with various things going on health-wise, my employers are expected to make reasonable adjustments. Makes sense, right? The only problem is… now I’m my main employer and I forget that this applies to me too. I set myself mammoth tasks with unreasonable deadlines, which is exactly what burned me out in the first place at my old employment, and expect myself to be able to do it! What am I doing!?

So this morning, I had another look at the project I’m working on at the moment, which only has the deadline I set myself, and looked at spreading the tasks out over a longer period of time. The result? A less stressed-out me and work that isn’t rushed and therefore will be better quality. I care about what I’m doing and I want it to be something I can be proud of. With this, I have the luxury of working to my own timescale, so I’m taking advantage of that. Already, it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I’m thinking more clearly.

Of course, I’ll be addressing these findings when I film my skillshare course, as I feel like this could be a trap that many self-employed people can fall into. One step at a time though!

Do you find that you take on too much all at once? What do you do to get out of that cycle?
